Is there another city, just under the water?

Looking at Venice reflected on the evening water, I felt as if another city existed just below the surface. I wanted to hold the light at that line, where the city meets its reflection.

This was the first piece in what became the Moment Series.

Each piece holds its own shape. Arranged together, they stretch like a horizon, expanding quietly, as if time itself were spreading across the room.

The Moment Series (2013–ongoing) is one question asked of one material. Water and glass share the same essence: they are living materials. They are most themselves not when forced into a predetermined shape, but when allowed to follow their own flow, guided by gravity and heat. In their spontaneous forms I have always seen time itself.

Why thirteen years, one series? The design industry keeps a fast clock, new collections every April. Molten glass keeps another. It cannot be hurried, only guided. So instead of something new each year, I chose one question, one material, and the same glass masters in Venice, a city where the changing presence of water is part of everyday life.

The series traces four states of water, four states of time. FLOW[T] (2013): a vast surface reflecting distant landscapes, an imaginary city just beneath the water. MOMENTO (2015): the fleeting instant of a droplet as it yields to gravity. CASCADE (2023): the pulse of a constant, living flow. FLUID (2026): light that settles, layers, and quietly stays. An instant, a sequence, a duration, a density.

What holds each moment was itself in motion a moment before. The glass that stops the water was flowing too, cooled only seconds apart from the shape it now keeps.

To depict time is to try to touch the invisible. Light, I believe, is what brings to the surface the memories held within that time. Where shifting light and material overlap, I hope to leave a quiet mark of the time that passes through us all. One material, one dialogue, one question, still open, which is why the work continues.
