RYO PORRO

How much can a single fold do?
RYO is the Japanese word for a ridge, the line where two planes meet. The shelving starts from that line: a single sheet of metal, folded once. The flat plane gains depth and begins to hold space.
From one angle the triangle looks light, from another solid. Turn it, and it becomes a different object. Put several together, and the geometry starts to repeat, like a rhythm.
The surface has an almost invisible protective finish, so the raw texture of the metal stays. Light and shadow move across it.

“Building on the milestone of its 100th anniversary, Porro continues its path of constant evolution through new creative collaborations and explorations of space, material, and form.
For Salone del Mobile 2026, Porro introduces RYO by Nao Tamura — a sculptural shelving system composed of folded aluminum planes, where lightness and solidity exist in quiet tension. Enhanced by an almost invisible protective finish, the raw metal surface reflects shifting light and shadow, transforming the object into a subtle architectural presence within the space.” Porro
